Broken Mirror DIY

I wish these photos would reflect how amazing this DIY project turned out!
The idea for this DIY project came from an earlier project I did with a wooden letter that I glued onto one of my Shelfs.
I love the idea of painting the inside of any shelf with a vibrant color, but I wanted to try something different, and heres is what I came up with...

Before:

Here's a look at what my cube bookcase looked like before the project. I purchased it at Walmart about a year ago.

What you'll need:

  • A mirror
  • Foam board
  • Measuring Tape
  • Mod Podge Glue
  • Hobby knife
  • pencil
  • Hammer
  • Ruler (not shown in picture)

Step 1:

I measured the length and width of one cubic opening from the bookcase using the measuring tape. Then I mapped it out onto the foam board using a ruler and pencil.

Step 2:

I then cut out the measurements using the hobby knife and repeated the process three more times.

Step 3:

This part was scary but fun! With the hammer, you lightly tap the mirror in different areas to break it. While doing this, you do not want to have the mirror laying flat, you want to have it tilted so that the mirror does not shatter all over your room. Then comes the fun part, I spread mod podge glue all over each cut out piece of foam and began applying random pieces of the mirror onto it. Once I was done, I put all four pieces to side to dry over night.

Step 4:

Once its all dry, you can pop those suckers into your bookcase and voila! You have a stylish brand new bookcase! This project was so much fun and scary at the same time lol. Please comment below I'd love to hear your thoughts on this project! :)
